The Proposal: Kristina and Brent met the winter of 2007 in college at Indiana University. His fraternity and her sorority performed a song/dance together for IU Sing (annual greek event). They became friends and started dating sophomore year, staying together through graduation in 2010. Kristina went on to earn a Masters in Occupational Therapy at Wash U in St. Louis, MO and Brent moved home to Evansville, IN. The couple continued their relationship long distance, and after grad school, Kristina still had to complete 6 months of clinicals before becoming a therapist. She decided to spend 3 months in Phoenix, AZ and 3 months in Nashville, TN- which was difficult, because it kept distance between them.
While Kristina was in Phoenix, AZ (5 years into their relationship) Brent flew out for a weekend visit. He told Kristina he wanted to see the Grand Canyon, and she tried to talk him out of it, because over 8 hours of their weekend together would be spent in a car. In the end Brent convinced her to make the drive with him since he was so excited to see it and to hike down into it. After driving all day, they arrived and the Grand Canyon was unbelievable. After hiking for about an hour Brent suggested they hike back up because he “didn’t want to hike in the dark”. Little did Kristina know the real reason why. They reached the top before sunset (but Kristina naturally stalled without even knowing it) and spent some time wandering around. Kristina suggested they leave, and Brent asked her to take a picture with him before leaving. They asked a stranger to take the photo and stood together with the sunset in the background. Brent had secretly switched his phone to “video” hoping the man would capture the proposal on video...but he realized and Brent had to act quickly to switch it to camera and play it cool. Kristina still had no idea. When he came back to pose with her for the picture, he started digging through his backpack...and she started to wonder what was up. By the time Kristina realized, Brent was on one knee. At the Grand Canyon with the sun setting, Brent was proposing marriage. They have awesome iPhone photos to cherish forever, and Kristina was so surprised that the only thing she could say at first was “seriously?!”. It was truly the one and only time she felt that “pinch me I’m dreaming” feeling and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
The Wedding Day: On a beautiful June day, Kristina and Brent got ready at the DoubleTree Hotel. Kristina's makeup was done by Lisa with Beauty Art Studio, hair by Ann Brody, the bride's gown was Morie Lee, with shoes by Glint, and bridal garter set from Hannabella Designs. The Bridesmaids dresses were Alfred Angelo, shoes by Nina, silver Kate Spade bangles, and yellow Coach wristlets given as gifts from the Bride. Flower Girl tutus from Tutus Chic Boutique. The Groom and Groomsmen wore suits by Vera Wang from Men's Warehouse.
They chose to see each other before the ceremony, and had a first look where they shared a few moments together before exchanging vows at Old St. Patrick's Church. After the wedding ceremony, we headed out to take photos around Chicago. Kristina and Brent left a lot of time for photography in their wedding day schedule and it shows because we were able to go to so many places! After our epic city wide photo adventure, we headed back to the DoubleTree for the reception. The food was provided by the in house catering, cake by The Baking Institute, and the florals were by DLN floral. Sounds Abound kept the dance floor moving all evening. We closed out the night with a few more outdoor photos of the Bride and Groom outside the DoubleTree.
Congrats Kristina + Brent!
