The Proposal: Jeff and Joey met and fell in love in June of 2007. They moved in together one year later and began building their life and family unit together. In June 2011 Illinois passed a law allowing same sex couples to enter into a Civil Union, and that Christmas Jeff and Joey announced their commitment and intention to be married someday to the couples' family. As a symbol of their commitment, Joey and Jeff each began wearing a ring on a chain around their necks. Because they believe in marriage equality for every person Joey and Jeff decided to wait until they could officially and legally be married in the state of Illinois before going any further. In November 2013 the great state of Illinois did pass a law allowing same sex couples the right to legally marry. In April 2014 while vacationing at the beautiful Iberostar Grand Rose Hall Resort in Jamaica on a moonlit beach listening to the beautiful music of John Legend’s “All of Me” on one knee Jeff proposed to Joey with a beautiful new ring to represent their upcoming marriage. The couple's commitment rings sit together on their nightstand in a jar etched with ”Always Kiss Me Goodnight” so they will always remember how their engagement began.
